My freshman year roommate decided about halfway through the first quarter that her soulmate roomie was next door and that we should swap. At the time it was a PITA but turned out to be a great move since New!Roomie and I became really good friends.

My freshman roommate was homophobic asshole who threw things at me and once threatened me with a bow and arrow. A few years later I turned the experience into an article in a college paper on how homophobia affects straight people as well.
Never had a roommate in college. Was very thankful for it, too. It was bad enough without having to deal with Other People In My Space.
The only roommate (as opposed to suitemate) I had in college ended up being the only roommate (and, apart from a summer, apartment mate) I had after college. We're still in touch intermittently. As a matter of fact, I should drop him an email.
Despite technically I had a roommate all through college, for two and a half years I didn't really. One year my roommate died and I had the room to myself the rest of the year (One, you don't get all As if your roommate dies. Two, I had nothing to do with it, it was that fucktard cancer who done it), the other two years my roommate essentially lived with his girlfriend.
I have not talked to my freshman roommate since freshman year, besides one or two prank phone calls the following year.
How much would it cost to send Ninjas to Northern Wisconsin?
My freshman year roommate woke up 2 and a half hours before her very first class (which was at 8:00) to make sure she had time to properly blow dry her hair, which she did in the room.
I sat up, looked at her, and mumbled "this part isn't going to work".
Things went down hill from there.

Your freshman year roommate was Rapunzel?
I was still living at home for my first uni degree, and I was married the second and third time around. I've always thought it would've been fun doing the living on campus thing.
My freshman roommate was my best friend from HS. Yes, it was a bad idea. Yes, we did stop being friends, but time and FB have healed those wounds. I've come to realize that we were both depressed and dealing with it in different and incompatible ways. Me - mainlining NIN and Sarah MacLachlan. Her - living in her Happy Bubble.
Still friends with sophomore roommate (year abroad), and had the same roommates junior and senior year.
My real nightmarish roommates were after college.
