I did a cake experiment tonight. I baked two layers of yellow cake (from a box mix) and whipped up a vanilla custard. Put the custard in the hollow space on the cake, popped on the second layer and frosted it all with chocolate buttercream icing. Sort of a Boston cream cake.
The results are nummy.
