shrift, my MiL does this baked cabbage that is very good. She starts with a roux, then adds shredded cabbage and tops it with shredded cheese to back. It's yummy!
My mother had two great uncles that fought on different sides of the Civil War. I'm fairly certain both sides of my family were pre-Revolutionary War immigrants. I've been wanting to do more genealogy with regards to my ancestors but I just suck at doing the research.
Let's see, for the Am. Rev. War era I have to go back 7 generations, and of 128 ancestors in that generation I have information on 37. Their birthplaces are: North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Germany, Poland, and Russia.
My ancestor who immigrated most recently was my mother's paternal grandmother. Franceska Horowitz, her brothers, and her parents came over from Russia in about 1900.
The earliest immigrant in my tree is John Carleton, born in Yorkshire in 1637, married in Rowley MA in 1659/60, and died in Haverhill MA in 1667/68.
eta: My great-great-grandfather Zachary S. Walker was born and lived in northern Alabama. His brother John was with the 9th Alabama Infantry (CSA) in the Civil War, but Zachary served with the 9th Indiana Cavalry (USA). I've always wondered how that came about.
As far as I know, my county is on water restrictions for the long weekend. (stupid broken water main) No watering the grass or washing the car, and limit the amount you use the toilet, dishwasher and/or washing machine. Bleah. Luckily, I did a bunch of laundry earlier this week.
Both of my siblings (ages 31 and 34) brought laundry to Cape Cod to do at my mother's house when I was there. When I laughed at this and noted I hadn't lived close enough to my mother's house to do laundry since I was 22, they got all pissy. (Which made me laugh more, but I kept it mostly inside.)
Casper scraped her nose on the bottom of the pool today. She was trying to be a dolphin.
My sister's freshman year of college, she was supposed to take the train home for Thanksgiving. A day or two before, she called and asked if our mother could come pick her up instead, because she was bringing home dirty laundry and she had too much to bring on the train.
So, had a decent birthday today. Not great, but I honestly can't remember a last great birthday. Tomorrow looks to be a bit busy if I get done everything I want to, but I tend to believe resolutions are better made at your birthday than at New Year's.
Went shopping for a bathing suit. Looked at Penneys, Macy, Nordstrom, Everything But Water, Sears, Belk, and Target. Bupkis. Feh.
flea, I back you up.
so my mom is on a plane back to Texas. It was great having her here and she was able to help me get several things done that would have been hard to get all done. BUT, and there is always a but, the woman does not put anything away. Just tonight in the kitchen I put up, bread and the butter dish left out from lunch, 3 used glasses, the leftovers she had a serving from for dinner, her snacks she brought from Texas, the empty soda bottle she had, and two plastic bags. ugh! and I am NOT a neat freak (back me up here folks that know).

I live in fear of doing just that when turning in the shallow end. As it is, I've scraped my kneecaps on multiple occasions, so she has my sympathies. As it is, I collided spectacularly with a big guy who apparently couldn't swim straight and ended up in my lane. He got dunked by my downstroke and kicked in the inner thigh as I swam over him. Wasn't intentional on my part, it just happened really fast.
Could someone pretty please copy Scrappy's ep to a dvd and send it to me? I don't have cable.
I'm just going to pretend my doctor made up the "it's probably nothing" anomaly with my bloodwork to get me back into the office for the other tests he couldn't do when I was in there yesterday.
