Everybody dies, Tracey. Someone's carrying a bullet for you right now, doesn't even know it. The trick is to die of old age before it finds you.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Grate cabbage, stir fry lightly with raisins and garam masala. Nom.

I'm thinking I need to make a curry, and maybe some soup. I'll wait a few days on the cabbage curry, though, because for dinner tonight I'll finally finish up the vat of cauliflower curry I made last Sunday.

Recipe suggestions for cabbagey goodness?

Slice it in thin strips, then sauteed with garlic, fresh minced ginger and peanut oil. When it starts to wilt, add a slug of rice wine or madiera. Saute a few more minutes, just to burn off the alcohol.

re: Revolution era, I've got lots of folks that go back that far in the New Jersey and New York area, and a few Civil War era folks. My paternal ancestors have been here for centuries, as are my mother's paternal ancestors. Her mother's folk were mid-1800's German immigrants. It makes the genealogy a little easier when you can find people in historical society publications.

Fewer people served in the Civil War than in the Revolution, because most of them were close enough to the Mason-Dixon line to tell recruiters "Sorry, son, we're south of the line, we're not serving the Union army," and then say, "We're north of the line here, son, we don't want no Confederate recruiters." And then they went back to their stills and left each other alone.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Craaaap. I have so much laundry to do, but only enough quarters for one load. I should have gotten a roll at the damn bank!

I've got half a go-cup full of quarters, but no motivation to do laundry.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

My motivation is related to the fact that I'm almost out of underwear...
