In a hilarious coincidence, someone I know elsewhere just posted "[4.5 year old] CUT HER HAIR HER BEAUTIFUL WAIST-LENGTH HAIR WHICH HAD NEVER BEEN CUT SHE CUT HER HAIR OMG HER HAIR."
I think I am not going to say anything at all. (Though I am pretty sure this person is not crazycakes, and just needs to vent to her internet friends. As is right and proper.)
Honestly, I'm deeply interested in what Liv would look like with a pixie cut. But since she hasn't said she wanted one, I don't feel like I should push it on her. I just wish I could have recorded this woman's conversation with Olivia about the incident. Liv kept looking at me with a WTF look on her face. And this was AFTER Liv had already apologized! TWICE!
I should have known this woman was insane the minute she started talking to me about her work with past life regression and how she had figured out a lot about herself from figuring things out about her past lives.
Confession:
In church pre-school, I "treated" all of the other toddlers to haircuts. Using plastic Crayola scissors that indeed did cut hair. I sent some kids home with new bangs, and at least one bowlcut. I don't know where our supervisors were. When my gramps came to pick me up and he asked me what happened, I told the truth: we'd all seen a picture of Dorothy Hammill and everyone wanted to look like her. Kids were lining up! No one was traumatized. I don't think I got in trouble, but I am pretty sure we had better supervision after that.
Have things changed that much since the 1970s or was my experience just really the exception?
I did that as well (Not waist length but longish and I was 3) My mother also freaked out for a bit (though I think it was more over the shock and because now she'd have to pay for a stylist). I did it again when I was in elementary school trying to look like Aimee Mann when she was in Till Tuesday (WHO THE FUCK WAS I KIDDING!?!) and then it grew back curly.
See now? Liv is just like me and DJ. She'll be fine.

Ah. Have you seen Away We Go? Because this reminds me a bit of Maggie Gyllenhaal's character.
java, my twin sister and I had never-before-cut-butt-length hair when we were four. Our older, more experienced cousin, Charlie, convinced us to play barber one day. Whacked it all off. Seriously. My mother cried when she first saw it, but had my aunt give us pixie cuts after that and we were none the worse for wear.
It happens A LOT!
Definitely happens all the time. Happened in the 2.5-3 year old class at Casper's day care (one kid cut another's hair), Casper went through a phase where she cut a couple of locks off of hers, and lots of kids cut their own bangs - typically, about 1/4 inch long. I've never seen anyone freak about it. With Casper we didn't even punish her, just reminded her that "scissors are for paper."

BWHAHAHAH! This is fast becoming one of DH's top three movies! He watches it all the time and that is his favorite segment. Much because he can't stand this character. We should really own that movie because we both love it bunches.
"You are TERRIBLE PEOPLE!"
