This just reeks of privilege:
WHAT AN AMERICAN 'LOOKS LIKE'?.... Five wealthy white people sat around a table on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" earlier, and talked a bit about ethnic politics and the Senate race in Massachusetts. It was a rather discouraging display.
Donny Deutsch got the ball rolling, suggesting that voters may be "going back to basics" after electing an African-American president and seeing "the female candidates and whatnot." Scott Brown, Deutsch added, "looks like the traditional view of a candidate," which may bring a "visceral comfort" to voters...
The Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan added that Brown is "a regular guy" who "looks like an American."
None of all-white participants in this discussion explained exactly what "an American" actually "looks like," but apparently it has something to do with being white, male, and handsome. Sorry, President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton, I guess you don't meet the criteria for looking American.
What is Panic! at the Disco? I keep seeing ficcy mentions of it, but I have no idea what it actually is, other than some source for bandfic.
Whyinhell is search not working for me? I know I have text files where this word exists, but search turns up naught. And it's not like I can install search tools on this system.
What is Panic! at the Disco?
They are a band with such hits as "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off," "The Only Difference Between Suicide and Martyrdom Is Press Coverage," and other long-winded song titles. I think they were discovered by Fall Out Boy?
I have to get to Rochester to see you, missy!
Before you leave!!! I am all shy, which is why I am not good at suggesting meet-ups.

That's especially ridiculous when everyone on the ballot is white and upper-class. Sure, he looks like "a politician," but that's exactly what's wrong with this country!! Grrr. I think I'm going to go vote now.
Panic! at the Disco is indeed a bandomy band, and they were discovered by Pete Wentz, and they're in their second incarnation now. The lead singer, who stayed, is fabulously musically talented (voice, plays a million instruments, huge music geek), as is the drummer. Their second album was sort of a Beach Boys/Beatlesesque homage, with lots of gorgeous melodies and stuff.
Also, P-C, they didn't use the long-winded titles on the second album, and don't appear to be using them on the third, either.
Amanda Palmer was on tour (in the Dresden Dolls) with Panic! at the Disco, so she is bandom adjacent.
Ah, part of a world of which I'm not hip enough to know anything about.
They were indeed, discovered by Fall Out Boy. They are currently working on their third album, but the band is down to two people Brendon Urie (vocals, guitar, piano, everything) and Spencer Smith (drums. The other two members Ryan Ross (lyrics, guitar, founder) and Jon Walker (bass) have formed another band called The Young Veins.
They abandoned the long titles for their second album, which has a Beatles-esque vibe. The third album sounds like it will be more poppy, while the Young Veins sound like a 60's band post Beatles.
Spencer Smith and Ryan Ross were childhood BFF's. Ryan had an alcoholic father and a lot of girlfriends cheat on him, which is why he wrote songds like "Lying is the Most Fun...". Then he fell in love and his songs were all happy. Then he cheated on her and they broke up. Brendon was/is Mormon. He has an adorable happy face and is a really good muscician. Jon Walker is a replacement from Chicago and likes cats. Spencer is, well, Spencer. He has pretty blue eyes.
ETA, Spencer is also an awesome drummer who looks like drummers is, like effortless.
I like their "Nine in the Afternoon" song.

I think that's a insulting to the voters as well.
IMO, Brown's success is a combination of a bad economy, a healthcare bill that's unpopular with progressives and an uninspiring dem candidate.
