Every nightmare I have that doesn't revolve around academic failure or public nudity is about that thing. In fact, once I dreamt that it attacked me while I was late for a test and naked.

Uh, speaking of immigration, here's an interesting article about people going around New York City to study endangered languages like Vlashki, Garifuna, Mamuju....

The same thing happened on a small scale in the Midwest fifty years ago. Scandinavian dialects that had existed in isolated valleys for millenia were being overwhelmed by the homogenizing effects of radio and TV. Elderly Scandinavians had difficulty remembering what was their childhood language and what was the general language, because the the two had been mixing for fifty years.

But those who had left for America as yound adults had been listening to radio and TV, and and interacting with other humans in English, so their childhood language was preserved. Scandinavian liguists sought them out and wrote dissertations on e.g. "Icebox Norwegian" that preserved the 19th century dialects.

Don't feel bad erika, that was my (admittidly possibly wrong) impression as well. The last time I remember seeing her post was some other political dust-up.
