I think I might not be able to butcher animals I raised.
Me neither. I could be vegetarian and I'm fine with gathering eggs and milking.
-t, corn must be planted in multiple rows so it will cross-pollinate or something, otherwise the stalks won't bear ears. If you have a small space make three or four short rows--even two or three plants per row--rather than a single longer one.
Oh, well, they're in the ground already. I'm really not expecting anything anyway. I didn't clear the area I was planting them in or anything, just dug holes in the grass and stuck the seedlings in - way ad hoc. If some of the stalks survive long enough get tall and I can gaze upon them while I'm washing dishes, that'll be pretty sweet.
My closest farmer's market doesn't open for almost two more weeks. I am impatient.
I am far less likely to eat fruit than vegetables. It's weird to me when I think about it, but I hardly ever make fruit a part of a meal (though it's always really good when I do), and I'm not much of a snacker, somehow. Or not much of a sweet snacker, I guess. I'm more likely to want nuts or crackers, seems like.
Edited because I woke up in the middle of the night thinking "I typed the wrong 'there' - must fix."
I love homegrown corn and tomatoes. I need to go to the garden store tomorrow; I've been wanting to plant some things, and cooking with the fresh herbs tonight just solidified it.
I think I want about two types of basil, thyme, some sage, and some tomatoes, to start. I think I might plant some morning glories on the front fence, too. It'll be too wet tomorrow to do that, but I can get the herbs started anyway. I'll want those in pots.
I'm inspired by all the food chat to hit the farmer's market Wednesday, and then the bigger ones next weekend! I love summer cooking! Grilled portobellos with lemon olive oil, pepper, a touch of balsamic, with grilled red pepper strips and goat cheese with a warm baguette and a soft red wine.
Who's going to take the blame for me watching the entire freaking series of "Kidnapped" tonight? I mean, I am only on episode 3 but it's CRACK. I shouldn't have started this so late in the evening...
I'm not veggie averse, but I not big on actually cooking. I need to work on that.
Who knows Björk's last name? It is...
Guðmundsdóttir
. Aren't we glad she just sticks to the first name? Here's a song from her at age 11. [link]
The diabetic recommends them, but you can't eat, say, a pound of cherries
I read this as like physically can't. And thought "sure you can!" And then realized you meant "shouldn't", because a serving is like, 12, as your next sentence says. Sigh. Slightly different.
I'm pretty sure that means that
Guðmund
is her mother's first name and that if Björk had a daughter named Suzy she'd be Suzy
Björksdóttir.
I'm pretty sure Iceland doesn't have last names that go from generation to generation like most of the rest of the world.
Ah, here's the Wikipedia. [link]
Guðmund
is likely her
father's
name, though it could be her mother's.
I wish I could grow herbs -- they're so stupid expensive to buy, when I almost never use the whole bunch in time! But I only get a little direct sun through my windows, and I figure my cat would eat them anyway, huh?
What about at your parents' house, Jesse? They don't need a lot of care, so if you're there even once a week you could take care of them.
Oh, that's an interesting thought. We had some mint and oregano outside when I was a kid, and I think they are on the safe-to-eat list, given how much lead is in the soil.... Of course, then I would have to plan ahead to use them!
