This is one distinct advantage of only having a FB page so I can play online scrabble. Sure I miss stuff, but on the other hand, I miss stuff.
it was decided that the library should be involved in Bring your Children to work day this year, so I am hosting a research problem/scavenger hunt in the library.
Wheeee
You love a scavenger hunt, Perkins, right?
Now I'm kind of bummed we don't have activities here! I could show the kids how to "look busy" and other handy office skills.

Heh. You could teach them to Alt-Tab to a spreadsheet whenever the boss comes around....
I have a spinach, fennel, and beet salad, with orange miso dressing. This is possibly the most perfect combination of flavors ever. I think next time the dressing should have a little more orange and ginger and a little less miso, but this is very close to perfection. (Also, the salad should have more beets, but I got tired of cutting them after a while.)

I've been wanting to try some beet dishes, but I've been nervous about the mess of peeling and cutting them. Do you have any tips, or is it just not as bad as I've been imagining? (which is pretty much CSI Veggie Tales)

Ask me later, after the kids are gone?
Man, Nora, what I wouldn't do to be able to come to your yard sale and divest you of the Le Creuset.
But somehow not seeing a 3K mile road trip for a yard sale. Bummer.

Well, I used golden beets, which cuts down on the CSI factor a lot. If you cut them while they're raw, there's much less mess, but they're also harder to cut. Peeling is easiest when they're raw. For this, I needed them julienned, and I used a julienne peeler, which was possibly not the best choice -- it works great on carrots, but I had to use a whole lot more force with the beets, and my hands were aching by the time I got through two.
