On Countdown last night, Derek Pitts pointed out that NASA ditched the Saturn V rocket after the Apollo mission completed, which would have been a great stepping off point for further developments on long-distance rockets for asteroid and Mars launches. So, I guess now they're having to start from scratch on the next generation of long-distance mission rockets.

I can certainly feel for the "if we hang out and she gets to know me something will just click" school of thought as it is so often mine. And also the "we're already pals and if I ask her out and she say's 'no' things will get irrevocably wierd" sentiment.
