Look at those pictures of wee small Matilda! I can't believe that when she came home from the hospital she was under 6 lbs. Hec sometimes accuses me of unseemly nostalgia for her past and wanting her baby self back too much, but really I love all her stages. I just greedily want them all, at once; I simultaneously adore the current one (could really do without the whining and dawdling, though; there's really not enough advance warning of just how skin-crawlingly awful it is), can't wait for the next one, and want to revel in every particular moment of all the past ones.
And it kind of makes me feel even more love for and amazement at my mother, who has known me through all of these and is now a friend. For all the material bad luck of the last few months, I am in so many more ways so incredibly lucky.
Speaking of which...well, Hec spoke of it in Apocalypse, so eloquently. That morning so long ago when I nerved myself up and delurked on an early Buffy thread in Table Talk changed my life; I'm so infinitely better for it, for all of you.
We're going to frame the card, with all the names, and hang it in our bedroom. Or maybe in the nerd hole, next to the computer.
