Answer to David's long-ago question:

I'm eager for the release of the next Temeraire novel, and Karen Healy's Guardian of the Dead. Oh, and the movie versions of Eagle of the Ninth and Tomorrow When the War Began, both of which will probably make me grind my teeth because they won't be as awesome as the novels were. But that's what happens with adaptations.

In other news, I begin to believe there are few cultural critics around right now who are better than Jay Smooth:

Why I'm rooting for Sarah Palin.

If I were the baby-having type, I would totally have Jay Smooth's babies. Not that he would want to have babies with a grey-haired bureaucratic on the other side of the country. But honestly. He's awesome.

ps -- watch the cat.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

How does Zipcar work? Does a Mini Cooper cost more than other cars? I always wondered.

What they said. With the added note that sometimes they have a deal where you get a car overnight (say, 7 pm to 6 am) in the middle of the week for a flat rate and then they're all the same. THAT is when I grab the Mini and floor it to some show somewhere. Good times.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I just got to the Dynasty-style catfight in the fountain on Ugly Betty. Awesome!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

That is a nice write-up, but one of the photos (of Bob, natch) is an image that freaked me the hell out at the time.

Yeah, there's some BOB stuff that's never been equaled much less topped in the history of television for pure creep-your-shit-out.

BOB's coming over the couch now and he's crawling right towards you.

See! It freaks your shit.

I will note that not only was Twin Peaks a huge game changer in the look of television, it also had the most beautiful cast ever. Maybe a small cast could equal it, but for a large cast, there's no comparison. So many amazing cheekbones.

Oh, how I love Jay Smooth.

I know, right? Why he hasn't realized yet that he's my secret internet boyfriend, I'll never know.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

25 Flashback episodes we love. BSG, Firefly, Buffy (Angel should be mentioned, for symmetry), Supernatural, West Wing, some fun stuff here.
