Every time I read Starbelly, I want Sneetches to come next. And now I'm picturing Hec and JZ and Emmett and Matilda telling the workers there to "Fix it up, chappie" and obssessively getting stars painted on and taken off of their bellies. I don't think that's what actually happens at Starbelly, but I don't know, having never been to one. I do hope that whatever it is, it's appropriately Seuss themed.

I can say that Starbelly is of the NOM. And that barkeep. She is amazing.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

But the big question is.... Are there sneetches!?!?!?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

No sneetches, unless juliana got a new star tattoo on her belly when I wasn't looking. (Which is entirely possible.)

and that the zmayhems are enjoying juliana's company and the yum of starbelly!

It was lovely. Definitely a push in the opposite direction from the rising tide of crappiness of this month. She treated us to everything from the cheese course (fantastique!) to dessert (chocolate mousse! Fancypants rice pudding!)

Emmett loved his lime rickey and Matilda contentedly munched on her french fries with three separate dips.

Bonus: megan walker dropped by on her way home from work!

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

It is sneetchless. But there was an unbelievably nummy cheese plate (Emmett sampled all the cheeses, even the strong moldy one and the runny rinded one--both a first for him--and pronounced them all delicious), and fries with three different dipping sauces, and mixed olives, and mussels, and slabs of homemade bacon (which I didn't eat but did admire, and which Hec and Emmett devoured with joy), and a burger and a perfect leg and thigh of chicken, and chocolate mousse and rice pudding and a brand new cocktail, just composed by juliana, which is a brilliant success. And juliana kept coming by to check on us and give out little hairpats and shoulder rubs and extra drinks. Plus, megan walked in just as we were finishing up the rice pudding!

In short, juliana is such a goddess, words can't even come close.

Yes, that sounds like a great evening, even without the sneetches.

“Not dead yet!”

Sounds absolutely lovely and what a way to kick March's ass on its way out the door.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Did you have the cheese plate with the apple and the awesome bread? That was SO GOOD!

YAY BOB!!!! Sorry I missed saying it while you were still awake, Lisa.

In less yay news, the Obama administration just managed to disgust me for the first time [link]

At least it took longer than it did with Bush.

Yes, that sounds like a great evening, even without the sneetches.

No sneetches, but there was a random dude at the bar that totally had my number. One of his first comments? "You look like you went to Wellesley." Hah!

I'm sad that waiting to talk to one of my Italian freelancers meant that I only caught the tail-end of the ZMayhems.
