who do you want to fight this? My mom just yanked the option, she made us lunch. Those that are depending on school lunches, they are a bit busier just surviving
Just to be clear, I was not being snarky about the honey. I am not a vegan by any stretch and usually ask here first about such things. I figured Hil would chime in. And she eats honey, so I think you're still safely in the Lent zone, JZ. And more importantly, to me, you had a wonderful day with your adorable not-such-a-toddler-anymore daughter!
I love Matilda's doggie plate!
The noodle house has a little stack of them just waiting for kids to come in. It's this place. Not great overall, but great for the money, clean and cheery, and awesomely kid-friendly.
Vegans eliminating honey makes the least amount of sense to me, since the bees aren't hurt or killed in the obtaining of honey.
I have at least one vegan friend who's standard is "they're not ours to use". She'd not eat lab-grown meat for the same reason.
(Of course, this led to a funny exchange where she said, "You woulnd't eat lab grown HUMAN flesh, would you?" and I was all "I'd JUMP at the chance!")

There are a bunch of national groups lobbying for changes to the school lunch program. Several of them have been denounced on conservative talk radio as socialists trying to indoctrinate our children.
I love places like that, JZ. Hooray for the good day after the cranky pants shedding!
Bee exploitation doesn't seem to be a big problem.
You think bees only exist to serve you?!? Bee hater.
I AM THE BEE MASTER.
Well, some honey production is essentially collecting all the bee's honey and replacing it with sugar water to keep the bees alive to make more honey to be collected.
I didn't know that! Hmm. I still have a hard time feeling sorry for bees, ever since one stung my big toe. Damn, that makes me a hater. OH NOES!!!
Seriously, though, that does seem shifty, replacing the bees' honey with sugar water. (I am also serious about my dislike of bees stemming from the hey-let's-sting-Steph's-big-toe episode.)
