Rooney should talk to plumbers and electricians and then he'd discover that they're out of a job, too. Jerk.

Compassionately intolerant

my mom got her bulldog yesterday! No pictures yet (although I called her an hour ago begging for some to be emailed this afternoon--I hope my brother gets right on it), but she's definitely making herself at home. Mom's trying to break her of the habit of jumping on the furniture, although she might be more lenient about the couch than her two brand-new leather chairs. She was a big hit at PetsMart this morning; everyone had to come over and pet her.

Congrats to your mom, Kathy!

I had a baby bulldog client this last weekend. They are, indeed, made of adorable...but require an even stronger boundaries than most breeds.

Forgive me for butting in, as the doggy lama, but to save problems later, it's good to know that a dog's mind works on the basis of 'always and never.' Allowing access to furniture without permission is generally a not-good idea, but allowing access to some furniture and not others is really confusing. Leniency = anxiety.

With a bulldog, the best way to break the jumping up habit is to use a quiet body-block, with a very slight bend at the waist. This 'psychological fencing' should be held until the little one gets bored and turns away. Praise her and give a distracting toy (or treat) when she moves away from the claimed object.

And again, congrats!

Pink eye. Seriously? I mean, I should have figured that out, but seriously? I need to go to the pharmacy to pick up some drops but beyond that I'm not supposed to "expose" myself to others. House arrest. Blech.

Speaking of jobs...If any of the DCistas know anyone with wait-staff experience who is looking for a job, Starfish is desperate for help. Patrick, the bartender (and possible owner, not sure) tried to recruit everyone at my table last night. He also mentioned that you get a 'shift meal.' The food is pretty good!

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Re: Andy Rooney

I've been lucky most of my life, but I've been out of work a few times too so I know what it is like not to have a good job or enough money.

When, exactly, the fuck was that? When he was 5?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Maybe I'll just get this and send him over the edge: [link]

Gnaaaaah.

Why the hell is Andy Rooney still on the air?

Thanks for the advice, bonny!! I put that into an email to Mom.

They are being strict about not feeding her human food, although she was really begging when they had pizza last night.

Any advice on dog food options? The foster family had her on Iams, and I told her to check with her vet on what he thinks might be a good brand.
