"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

DJ, I skiperated, but is the Grapevine closing???

No. Our neighborhood is kinda mixed development on the main drag & there are a few bars within walking distance. One of them had become our main hangout.

The block it is on is a 1920's retail development. The Italian place (been there around 30 or so years) apparently caught fire and wiped out the whole block including our place (been there since 1923). So we've lost our neighborhood bar, along with 2 others and the Italian place. and a hundred or so employees, many of them our friends are without work as of yesterday morning. One of our friends worked at both the Italian place and our bar.

Oh and the big moneymaker that pays everyone's rent-St. Pat's Day Parade is next weekend.

Jon's trying to put together work share and job boards. 2 accounts have been set up at the bank across the street to help employees and for possible rebuilding.

To sum up: Historical neighborhood places burned to the ground, people are out of work, other people are being awesome and stepping up. It's all here with pictures, including one looking from up our street. [link]

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

I don't. Also take it with a grain of salt. I'm still trying to find the email.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm still bummed about DJ's neighborhood. That's irreplaceable.

In better news (though really for me), the little bit of steak and eggs I just had was so satisfying.

One egg scrambled, the four small slices off the butt end of a London broil, and toast made from the super delicious feta green onion bread at Brioche Bakery and Cafe.

I only ever make steak and eggs when I have some leftover bit of beef, which is a fairly rare occurrence. But it's often a little disappointing - reheating the steak tends to overcook it. But this was just right.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Here is an article that says Hulu is considering a pay service "in addition to the ad supported service. " [link] Though I think the one I read had more details.

Thanks, Hec. They're trying to keep the facade for rebuilding purposes.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

An amusing flyer about a cat.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Hey, lots of people have good news!

YAY, Brenda!

And msbelle is having some things go right. About damn time.

My cat Cosmo is thundering up and down the hallway and growling at intervals. It's like "Thump. THUMPTHUMPTHUMPgrowwwlllllTHUMPTHUMPETYTHUMPETYskiiiidddddGROWL. Thump. Meow."

It's weird, but also hilarious. She race in here and slide, stare at me, and thunder off again. Freak!

I am going to make breakfast for dinner tonight.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Thanks, DJ. I don't use Hulu as much as some, but it helps me out of my Thursday 9pm logjam.

I just realised that the extra TiVo storage I bought this morning would require me to ship off my TiVo. Haha! Not happening. But, so luckily, Weaknees has a storefront near me, and I'm totally going to drop it off and wait the two hours.

Because I'm addicted like that.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Does anyone else's cat make little grumbly meows while they walk down the hall? Not in a "I'm arriving soon" announcing their presence way, but more just meowing to make noise.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

My cat Leo talks to himself all the time. It's hilarious, when it isn't driving me batshit.
