A French R is more gluttal than Hebrew. A Hebrew R is "softer, by and large," says The Girl. That doesn't make anything very clear. She says they're very similar. I don't know why I hear them as very different, then.

Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
tee hee hee. I just Skyped with Shir. Gotta love the internet.
OK, so we spent a fair amount of time saying her name, which must have been strange for her. As a non-linguistic person, horrible with phonetics, I will say (and Shir is going to hate me) that the Hebrew-to-English pronunciation of the R is closer to a soft L. So it's more like "Shill" or maybe "Shiel". But Shir will tell you there is an R in there, but couldn't decide if the English R sound came after the L sound or before, and my pronunciation didn't help. I blame cheap mic on the cheap laptop the most.
Either way, it was great chatting.
With that, I will attempt sleep again.
I hope you're sleeping.
My name, in transcription, is as following: /ʃ/[i] and then, according to Wikipedia: usually IPA: [r] or /ɾ/ but also /ʁ/ or /ʀ/ in Hebrew.
Knock yourselves out.
And there isn't an l in my name!

I finally finished my taxes. i have big plans of going to bed early to celebrate. the good news: tax credit for buying my home. bad news: couldn't efile, have to do it the hard way, won't be seeing that refund for many months yet. Boo. Hiss. I have a new sewer line to finance! Due by April 10, according to the letter that was intended for me but not addressed to me. Black cat #2 is now sleeping on last year's taxes.
Thanks to friends who know IPA, here's the right way to say my name: ʃɪr bɛn-ɔr
