As you may already know, it is a sin for a Muslim male to see any woman other than his wife naked. He must commit suicide if he does.
I did plan to go to bed, since I am to get up in six hours, but seeing this... I just needed to say, clear and loud, that Liberal Islam is perhaps the most tolerant religion I'm familiar with (I'm not that familiar with polytheistic religions, but it's most certainly more tolerant than Liberal Judaism, and what I know of some sects of Christianity).
And that's coming from a mostly-secular Jew, in Israel, in one of the focal points of what we love to call "the conflict/the situation".
A sin? Perhaps, under very strict circumstances. The "punishment"? absurd and a lie. And I just wanted to say that, in case people here didn't know that about Islam (not that I know much, but I'm learning a lot from this guy [link] this year.
When in such a deep and split situation, at some point (IMHO) it's not so easy anymore to categorized things into "good" and "evil", for you have to be extremely blind in order to keep the separation between these two concepts that all share. And just as I refuse to become "the other" by mere being a woman, a Middle Eastern (and oh, how I despise my "privileged" university for not acknowledging Arabic as a third language, and only "European" languages counts - so much for the idea of collaboration between Middle Eastern scholars. I'm so glad I learned it in high-school), or Jewish, I refuse to "othernize" other people. L'enfer, c'est les autres indeed, but the others aren't of one religion, one race, one gender or even from one part of the world. And in order to know what's right to fight, one must know what's not to fight, and in the spirit of Judaism - if there's one good man in a city, one must not cause harm to anyone it.
I also highly recommend of "Lectures on Islam" by Goldziher, if anyone interested in further reading.
Damn, and now I really have to go to bed.
