Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Just upfront, I acknowledge this is errant bigotry and small-mindedness and disrespectful etc.
I don't like Texans. Particularly the ones who call in for help. 98% of them do not seem to have the intelligence to work their computers and our program. Calling me "ma'am" does not make up for an inability to follow instructions. This does not cover the ones who seem to revel in their "charming lack of sophistication" and apparent casual approach to education.
To his credit, my current caller did everything right and falls in the 2 percent who have only my close-mindedness to deal with. But everyone I've talked to this morning has been from Texas.
I've probably offended all the Texan Buffistas, and I'm sorry. I hope my statistical universe is non-typical.
Georgians and Carolinans are fun, though. And the Louisianas are always delighted that I can pronounce the names from there. But if I get too many more snotty Northeasterners, there may be words. I may be *in* Utah, but I am not *of* Utah.
How about Midwesterners, Connie?
Midwesterners don't call that often. I suspect they know what they're doing.
edit: stressed-out Californians trying to keep up with fires and mudslides and floods get extra patience.
Our biggest client is headquartered in Houston. I dunno - they seem about as knowledgeable about computers as non-Texans to me....
A number of them have email sig files about Jesus, however....
I kind of see wikipedia's point, but I wouldn't say it quite so judgementally. Also, that sounds more like my "relationship" with, say, Keith Olbermann(or any of my other unattainable lust objects, although KO and I have swapped pixels a few times, so we've sort of met) than something the "object" actively participates in, as smonster seems to describe.Which reminds me, have I told y'all I love you lately? Because the other day I told someone I wondered what Rep. Grayson's wife looked like and got pretty much bitchslapped for it over on dkos...just by one guy, but still. I get so annoyed by the "I r serius librul' people sometimes. Sometimes I wish I were more like them and then I get to revisit my old "friend", guilt.(Not about that idle comment, but I'm glad I didn't add my "clever" comment about checking out the competition or whatnot. That might have led to bile-pa-looza.
I've worked with plenty of techie Texans. While I regard Texas as a strange, foreign world with its own curious customs and foodstuffs, most of which baffle me, there are plenty of 'em with a strong technical grasp.
Signed, the last name used on the board is found pretty much ONLY in Texas, or in a handful of Exans.
Happy birthday, Andi!!!
I can get away from the coffee-stained beige carpet that's been in every apartment I've lived in since 1992. OK, so the coffee stains didn't come with the apartments
Calli, are you my roommate and I never knew it? You must be super quiet and take up very little space.
ION, it is Friday and I am so glad. This past 2 weeks have been hectic and trying. The HS district just announced 75 teacher cuts due to budget issues. I know I shouldn't read comments on the newspaper articles, but I did. At least 95% keep saying that teachers make more money than private sector (which I certainly don't), work only 8 months of the year (which I certainly don't), and have a great pension to retire on funded totally by the state (which is a load of crap). So basically, we should all suck it up and deal because we make great coin for very little work.
It's making me feel very underappreciated and sad. And nervous. My district has been making rumblings about budget issues. I'm new and teach an elective. I just went through a RIF last year and don't want to do it again.
We have a lot of techie type companies here, so.
I think I'm going to stay home today. My ankle hurts, not enough that I have to stay home, but there's nothing I really need to do today, and I just don't have any "work through the pain" motivation right now.
Heh. I've found I quite like EX texans. I have lots of fun with big bold people. Who chose to leave a red state, like I did.
