River: They weren't cows inside. They were waiting to be, but they forgot. Now they see the sky and they remember what they are. Mal: Is it bad that what she said made perfect sense to me?

'Safe'

Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Glad for less awfulness, Connie!

Life in the Muppet-verse sounds pretty good. I think I would be at home on the Discworld.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

O_a is this for a faculty or staff position?

Non professor gig. So staff.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Casa Vega is pretty good Mexican, IIRC.

Watch out for the face attacking tiles, though. Just ask Emeline.

Now tagless for your comfort.

That's great news, Connie!

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Gah. Just tripped over a Rubik's cube and partially dislocated a rib. This seems like it ought to be part of a short story or something, but I can't figure out what all the symbolism would be.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

Connie, it's great to hear that things might be looking better with your sister. (And writing is great. The Girl has been writing a blog about the family's experiences regarding her father's cancer, and it seems to be helping her a lot.)

Hil - erk. Is it stuck, or did it go back in? I hope it's not too painful.

So there's mixed opinion (between two different departmental representatives) over whether there's any chance of funding for my PhD at Good-But-Close University (as opposed to Leeds, which is good but FAR). Typical. I shall pray. And fill in forms.

The Girl just discovered the UK government official statistics website. She's exhibiting far too much joy over this. How'd I end up with a quantitative person, exactly? (No, seriously. She's practically orgasming over "raw data".)

Went back in. This one pops out and back in pretty easily -- I've subluxed it a bunch of times by sneezing. Doesn't hurt much.

And now I'm getting rejection letters from all the schools that decided to hire other people. Most of them I expected -- I applied to 137 schools, and expect no more than three offers -- but watching them pile up is still annoying.

You realize that she's One of Us.

It's good to hear good news about your sister, Connie.

I was not able to write about my cancer at the time, because I was busy trying to not think about it. It's possible I could do it now that I'm past the five-year mark.

Some people I sorta know are organizing a bake sale to raise money for Haiti. I'm trying to decide if I want to bake or volunteer to sell stuff, and what I should bake if I do bake stuff. I guess cookies would be easiest to transport.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

oops, i massively overslept today. I'm trying to transition from my night-shift work schedule (working 9pm to 7am) to day-shifty for travel. And my 7am flight tomorrow! My grand plan was to wake up around 9 am this morning so tomorrow's pre-dawn wakeup wouldn't be quite so offputting. Yet i didn't tumble out of bed until well past 1pm. Ooops. Yeah, tomorrow will be a well-coffeed morning!
