Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

No, not Salon. Worse, a blog connected to a conservative Catholic site. They're trying to explain to my poor benighted self how my belief that God sees everyone's value, wants us all to use our gifts, and has in fact been hinting that women's ordination should be accepted except that the male power structure is afraid and resistant to any change proves that they are happy, I am miserable, I hate men, and I believe in a small and petty God and they feel sorry for me.

Step away. When people are trying to convince you that equality in God's eyes=pettiness, there is no logic to be found.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

JZ, out-nice them. A simple "Yes, of course. Why didn't I see that before? Thanks for pointing it out," and an abrupt departure may not trip their clue-meter, but everyone else reading the discussion will surely get it. Be the bigger person, kill 'em with nice and walk away.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

I've just walked away, period. Not sure how long I'll make it stick, but for now I've hit my limit. Fortunately, there are now four of us tag-teaming the bigots: three women being placidly reasonable and scholarly and intent and one guy saying, "Do you people genuinely not realize what assholes you're being?"

In completely other news...hivemind crafting/sewing advice? I have one of those black velvet pirate coats from Newport News that everyone's been lusting after for ages (got it at some ridiculous discount two years ago and have finally started wearing it), and the buttons are irritating me. They're round and bumpy and they catch on things and two of them have already fallen off. I've been trolling eBay for pewter-ish buttons that are flatter and won't catch on everything in sight, but, damn, they're pricey. Where should I be looking?

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Why did I not realize how much eyeliner he was wearing?

Because it was the 80s? Of course, Tom Scola has already covered that.

JZ, you show wisdom and restraint. In your shoes I might have made a departing line of "Jesus was totally talking about you douchenozzles when he said 'Cast not your pearls before swine....'"

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

My cat and I watched that together.

Loved the camera person trying to stifle a laugh....

Harvey and I watched a bunch of vids on the Big Cat Rescue channel on YouTube today. I love it when a lion roars, and he gets soooo wide eyed.

TC used to recognize the big cat cough-snarl after the break on Big Cat Diary and come running to watch. He was riveted by the cheetah chases, and he loved the leopard stuff. But he lost interest in the stuff about the lions. I think he couldn't track the action without the spots.

Harvey used to slap the hell out of a pair of fuzzy leopard-print slippers I used to have, if he saw them without my feet in them. I think he was checking if they were dead or just sleeping. Bast only knows what he thought when I wore them.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

I feel like i ought to like, leave the house tomorrow night and do something to celebrate the change of year. Yet, my motivation is severely low. if i can avoid driving at all tomorrow, i will. i actually have a whole day without work or dr appointments! why can't all my friends just come over to my house with no planning or preparation on my part? I know, unlikely given that i planned a big ole housewarming/solstice party last week and only two neighbors showed up. *sigh*
