(You might want to also post that in Tech, java.)
Oh, Nora. I hate those meetings. I still twitch when I think about the time one of my more asshat supervisors said that he'd been irritated all year that I didn't bring my calendar to meetings. I didn't see any need for it, because I knew my immediate schedule and I'd put any dates in my notes and enter them in Outlook. I, on the other hand, had been irritated all year that he was the last person in the department not using the Outlook calendar system, which had made him miss several important meetings.
He was the same supervisor whom I would ask for help, since I had had an ever-growing website added to my existing duties, and he's say, "Well, everyone's plate is pretty full." Then when something was late a few weeks later, he'd say, "Why didn't you ask for help?"
I just sent my boss an email thanking him for his feedback, appreciating the fact that he continued to hold the conversation with me while I was in tears, and offering to start the new year early by readjusting my attitude to expectations as of today.
Basically, the only thing I really meant was the thing about continuing conversation while I was crying, but I hope the other two will help me, in a "fake it till I make it" kind of way.
Nora, sorry about the job problems. sigh ....
On the lighter side, an appropriate gingerbread construction for us.
"fake it till I make it"
A key to getting through this. It sucks, but it's real.
That sounds like a good response, Nora. Good luck.
Anyway I write this here in the hopes that one of you has a site you use for work that you LOVE?
java, we use Accellion, and it's pretty great, especially if you want your files to be secure. It will shred the fuck out of them after fourteen days.
But it's not like YouSendIt where you can just go to the website and use it; they set up a company-specific secure file transfer site for us. Which is easy to use.
Hang in there, Nora. Put on that cheery grin!!!!
Roommate wrote back. Was smoking, won't now. All is well.
Just back from candlelit Advent carol service. Next to me, The Girl set her hymn-sheet on fire*. Then she complained about a line in 'In The Bleak Midwinter' (the one that goes 'earth stood hard as iron/water like a stone' - "It's 17 degrees C in Tel Aviv today," she quite accurately pointed out). Also, we're having below-freezing temperatures and snow, and the church hadn't thought to turn up the heating. Watcher-in-Training family fun. It wouldn't be my church without its various weirdnesses (including no heating).
*Only a little bit
smonster, I'm glad your ticket finally got sorted. Delta sound almost as much the idiots as El Al.
tomorrow I'm going to a very awesome sci-fi con. And cutting from university in order to go there, where I'll actually study more history and sociology than in 3 weeks in uni, I reckon. My laugh is evil.
So true! Enjoy.
Was it in here we were discussing wacky student dress? I just saw one in t-shirt, shorts, and bare feet. It's in the low 40s today.
I never understood why the undergrads - last year when I was on campus - were going to class in pyjamas. You don't get dressed for lectures?
Nora, the meeting stuff sounds rubbish. Here's hoping you feel a bit better soon, and for work improvement of one sort or another.
Calming thoughts, omnis!
