A matter of accuracy. I guess it would be like saying politician could equal democrat. But could also equal libertarian. Soldier, iirc, is Army folk only. There are Navy folk in harms way over there. I'm guessing those folks wouldn't like being called soldiers either.
Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Soldier does not equal all service members. Marines are not soldiers. Marines are Marines.
And similarly for members of the Air Force and Navy (though they aren't getting killed so much in these wars). I suspect that's why the news with with "troops" (and then "troop"). Once "Men in uniform" became the unwieldy "men and women in uniform" they were left in a terminology minefield (what with us having not signed the terminology mine band).
I sometimes forget to read notes in the morning but I never forget my lunch if I put my car keys in the refrigerator.
It's a giant note under my keys, so it usually works.
Navy - sailors
Air Force - air (wo)men, IIRC
KBD gets peeved at that stuff.
Ok, really, bed.
Can you completely destroy something?
Completely destroy is redundant.
Destroy:
1. to reduce (an object) to useless fragments, a useless form, or remains, as by rending, burning, or dissolving; injure beyond repair or renewal; demolish; ruin; annihilate.
2. to put an end to; extinguish.
3. to kill; slay.
4. to render ineffective or useless; nullify; neutralize; invalidate.
5. to defeat completely.
I called some guys soldiers in front of my dad one time & he said, "those aren't soldiers, they're marines." I believe servicemen is generic.
Then one can decimate and destroy at the same time, if the key is rendering useless.
they were left in a terminology minefield (what with us having not signed the terminology mine band).
...does one write fanfic about the mine band??
Quick recovery~ma, Burrell!
smonster, your hair is smokin'!
I'm recovering from a tough day at work in which taking someone on an outing they'd earned by good behavior on Saturday (and should have been able to go on then) when it was 27 degrees Farenheit, whereas today it was 2 degrees F, was the least unpleasant of the various things that happened.
I think I'm smelling smoke from roommate who I hardly ever see's room. Does this sound non-mean enough?
Lately I keep smelling cigarette smoke in the apartment. I don't know if you're smoking in your room or if its one of the neighbors or something else entirely (J___ smokes outside).
If you've forgotten since the ad and the roommate interview that there's no smoking in the apartment its no big deal, just don't do it anymore. If not, sorry to bug you.
Thanks,
Trudy
I don't want to discuss it with him with his Girlfriend here (I think she's the one smoking, actually), and I just about never see him. Oy.
Fuck that noise Trudy--especially if it IS the girlfriend who's smoking. Bust in on them--"Oh no, I thought something was on fire, because I smelled smoke, and OBVIOUSLY you wouldn't have been smoking in the room since that's against the lease. But I guess you were..."
