Is there anyway she can hitch a ride with someone else there and you can make an appearance for dessert and take her home?
Well, that's the problem. It's a reunion, so the only person my mother knows is the host. I was hoping that my brother could take one for the team on this, but he's out of town.
Is it irrational to NOT want certain people to call you by a nickname? A nickname that several others use regularly? And not so much people as one person?
No, you should be called what you want to be called. Actually it's easier if only one person calls you that because you can say "I prefer to be called X " and when they say "but bob calls you Y", you can say "yeah, that's our thing, and I don't like it when someone else calls me Y"
Ah, this is me and hugging. (Though I was actually told that I "can't" hug selectively; either I hug everyone who wants to put their grubby paws around me, or I hug no one at all.)
(BODILY AUTONOMY, MOTHERFUCKERS.)
("Motherfuckers" /= Bitches. Just to be clear.)

I'm pretty sure anyone who thinks this should get punched in the head. And not in a fun way.

WTFuckingF? Not on, person who said that. We smite, shun, spurn and otherwise refudiate you.
By having a torso you were clearly asking for it.

Not at all. I just had the same issue, someone at work found out my personal email starts with billytea and decided to start calling me that. Aside from the presumptuousness, it is so not my work name. You guys call me billytea. He's not you guys.
You guys call me billytea. He's not you guys.
You mentioned once that you prefer to be called William in person, and so when I've seen you in person, I've done that (even if my brain is still calling you billytea, it's INSIDE). Because that's what you prefer.
It's even more ridic with me: my MiL just called me "Aims" on FB. Lots of people call me Aims, but to me it's term of endearment and, well, I don't want her to call me Aims. People I love call me Aims and I do not feel love for her. I feel ... something else since she is the mother of my husband and grandmother to my child. But I don't know that I'd call it love.
I may just be cranky today. I'm convinced that I am not merely suffering from a viral sinus infection (FOR THREE FLIPPING WEEKS NOW!!) but from my body rejecting the amount of body fat I have and is creating mucous from it.
{{{Aims}}} I can see you not wanting your MIL to call you by your nickname, but I can't imagine a way to tell her that without major family drama.
