Wash: Well, I wash my hands of it. It's a hopeless case. I'll read a nice poem at the funeral. Something with imagery. Zoe: You could lock the door and keep the power-hungry maniac at bay. Wash: Oh, no, I'm starting to like this poetry idea now. Here lies my beloved Zoe, my autumn flower, somewhat less attractive now she's all corpsified and gross...

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

There are certain dishes in which professional gourmet chefs insist on Velveeta as an ingredient

I am going to need some backup for this claim.

Well, Google gives me this one [link] and this one [link]

I'm seeing articles that refer to chefs saying the texture is what they need in certain things, generally mac-n-cheese, but I'm not seeing the actual chefs.

Hey, some people juggle geese.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Hey, some people juggle geese.

I briefly misread this as "some people juggle cheese". It would be even more fun as "some people juggle Cleese".

Wow, not exactly a hollywood ending to Farscape. I realize they were banking on another season. But wow.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Well, they did have a followup mini...

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

I read about Velveeta as a "must" ingredient. Someone was interviewing a chef who sold gourmet Mexican food (admittedly in Seattle which is not famous for gourmet Mexican food). Anyway they asked can you make X without Velveeta? And the answer was "Yes, but you can't can't make GOOD X without Velveeta." I don't remember what X was. Chile Con Queso maybe? Except Chili Con Questo is more Tex-Mex than real Mexican food, and I've had good Chile Con Queso made with Monterey jack and real peppers. If I could remember what "X" was I could find the link. Or if I could remember the paper. The Volcano? The Stranger.

OK it was Queso. And I admit the best Queso I've had did include Velveeta.

So here is the link:

You can't ask a man to reveal his secret queso recipe. But you can ask whether it's possible to make good queso without involving some amount of Velveeta. Nathan's reply: "You can make queso without it, but you can't make good queso without it."

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

So Father's Day was non-traumatic. I called my sister, and she gave the phone to my dad, and we talked about the World Cup and I said happy Father's Day, and that was it. He gave the phone to my brother, and we talked about games, and I hung up. My sister texted to thank me for calling and said she'd made sure the phone hadn't gone to my mom. I'm sure traumatic conversations are in my future, but they didn't happen today.

Also, my sister sent a follow-up e-mail.

Brother who needs to FedEx me some of his veggie chili,

I just want you to know that I still love you (Awwww.) I mean, I understand how you feel with everyone hammering about being so old and needing to get married and you not wanting to take that step yet. I get that you're frustrated and what not. I just didn't like how you handled the situation. I mean, I'm here on the other side and I see the outcome of what you say to them and it hurts. You're over there so you don't really see the repercussions. I just want you to know that I sent that email to you to let you know how just frustrated I was and just bleh. I don't really know. I am caught in the middle.

On one hand I can see what you're going through and get why you're mad and want to be left alone. On the other, I would just think you could go about getting your point across in a nicer way (though it is mommy and pappa, so they don't always see your point, but still). I live with them and know what it's like, but I just think there's a better way of talking to them, especially mommy because she's so sensitive (and don't give me the "you don't care about her sensitivity, that's her problem" business. She's your mom and you should care).

Anywhoo, I'm just rambling on and I just hope you aren't angry with me, or if you are, you see where I'm coming from. I love you and just wish you to be happy, but at the same time, I don't like seeing our parents depressed. I love you :)

Sister who made kick butt snickerdoodles today.

This one, I will reply to and let her know I understand her perspective and love her too.

Yeah, I saw that this evening as I went into Netflix to rate the series, and have added it to my cue, and bumped up near the top.

May your mother write a similar e-mail (without the assCAPS), and let the reconciliation begin!

[OK, maybe I watched too many TUDORS episodes this weekend. I realize, I am not the King of anything]

I realize, I am not the King of anything

Omnis should be the King of something.

Glad to hear things could have gone worse with your family on Father's Day, P-C. That sounds fairly bearable!
