Because I'm in That Sort Of Mood, I just looked up 1st editions of SWTWC. $1,650. Ouch.
'Shindig'
Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
I have an ancient edition of King Solomon's Mines and a few other really early editions. Not sure if any of them are firsts. I also have a nearly complete set of early 1900s edition of the Yale Shakespeare Library.
Oh, this book talk reminds me! So Jon bought me a Kindle from a friend of ours for about $70. Shortly after, Ozymandias (once again living up to his name) ate it. That same friend bought one of the bigger Kindles a few weeks ago, and GAVE ME HIS! How awesome is that?
Pretty damned awesome DJ. Congrats!
I have a 1945 translation of Felix Salton's Bambi, featuring a letter from the author. And a 1919 Three Men in a Boat. The cover of TMinaB is lovely red with gold gilting, but the cover has come off. Sad.
I still drool over my godfather's rare-book collection. He has all of the first editions for both Tolkien and Jack London.
Does anyone have suggestions for cooking summer squash, please? My usual thing is to lightly steam or bake a vegetable, then hit it with butter and/or vinegar. But steaming and baking leave summer squash slimey. Likewise putting them in casseroles. My usual solution is to just not buy summer squash, but they're coming in with the CSA now so I'm stuck with them. Can I use them in bread like zucchini?
I saute squash/zucchini with onion in olive oil. With herbs if I have them or just S & P. No sliminess happens.
Or skewer and grill.
Squash is delicious sliced, tossed lightly with olive oil, garlic and pepper, and grilled.
I put it in spaghetti sauce. Or grate it and put it in ground hamburger or turkey and grill.
The mother's stealth vegetable technique?
