'Serenity'
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I don't fly home until Saturday. I've been here for 10 days already.
America: the Story of Us strikes me as elementary school US history given the big budget treatment
I've been watching it, and yeah, that's about right. And they don't get all the details right, either. Sarameg pointed out their mistake about whale oil being used in the Hubble telescope (wrong!), and I noticed that they referred to Harriet Beecher Stowe as "an unknown housewife," failing to point out her very prominent brother and her own extensive abolitionist background.
What drives me up the wall the most is all of the little odes to American exceptionalism given by various pop culture figures (Michael Douglas? Jeannette Walls?? Bruce Jenner???). I did like the actor who played the young Frederick Douglass--don't know his name, but he was very charismatic in the few minutes he was on screen.
"an unknown housewife,"
Wait, seriously? Please to hold on while I tie down my would-be-smashy fist of "that's not history, goddammit!"
Oh, God, if I watched this, I'd be like Keith Olbermann sending ken Burns that infamous "Great documentary...here's what you got wrong..." letter about Baseball, wouldn't I? Yes, he really did that. Act surprised. They've become friendly since, though.
"An unknown housewife" who had been writing and selling articles and short stories for 18 years prior to Uncle Tom's Cabin.
I have no idea what to get to my sister for her 21th birthdayWait, the sister that has been on the front line is only 21? Why did I think she was an officer and older than that? As for ideas... books? Gift card for books? A nice new Glock? Firefly DVDs?
As for America: The Story Of Us. I recall hearing/seeing the ads while packing, and thinking with the move I'll miss it. From the sounds of it, good thing.
ION- it's the beginning of my 2nd week at new job. There should not be big changes happening that I'm not allowed to talk about. It's painted all sorts of wrong. Blargh! If you find bits of my head, please save. The explosion wasn't large, but head exploded a bit at this mornings meeting.
Wait, seriously? Please to hold on while I tie down my would-be-smashy fist of "that's not history, goddammit!"Hmm, was it produced by the Texas School Board???
Well, sure, Ginger, if a woman is swept up into fame and influence by sheer random chance, that's one thing; but if she has a lifelong intellectual career starting from her highly educated, influential, and politically activist family, and thence continuing into an independent career of her own after her marriage to someone from the same circles? TOTALLY not okay!
'scuse me, my smashy fist seems to have escaped again.
I hadn't mentioned it but I had a follow up appointment today about my whole UTI on going saga.
Basically it boils down to -- the doctors aren't sure if the vestigal stumps on my bladder are causing me to get UTIs. They could go in and remove them but that's major surgery that would include not only cutting into my abdomen but quite possibly cutting into my bladder so that's pretty much off the table.
The doctor at the big teaching hospital confered with many doctors, non of whom had really seen anything like my case and most couldn't offer an opinion of what to do. One did however -- go in and enlarge the opening of the stumps. Except that may not work either and while it wouldn't be big time surgery it would be done via endoscopy. I could have that done but the doctor wants me to think about it.
In the meantime he's prescribing some medicine that's not an antibiotic but helps reduce infection in people prone to infections. And Vitamin C, they need to be taken toegether. I'm picking up the prescription tomorrow and I'll have a name for whatever the medicine is.
So i can take that and see if that helps any. Basically it's a big long -- wait and see what happens.
5 hours round trip for a 45 minute appointment. I'm supposed to call back and give him an update in a month or so since it's such a long way to go for follow up appointments.
I pretty much decided on the long boring drive back that I'm goign to give the medicines a chance and if I have another UTI between now and the end of the year I'm goign to have the endoscopic procedure done.
