Stupid questions are more renewable than wind power. I'm very sloppy about the shaving thing...kind of if I wear a short skirt or start having deodorant failures.ETA: Did crip camp twice...mostly learned that there are a host of other reasons why people don't "get" me not related to the chair.

My Church camp was not so aggressively "church" as many people think of it I suppose. It was out of the tradition where churches built places in the woods for kids to go when it was hot, not so much a desire to turn out virginal scripture-parroting automatons.

This is similar to much of my church camp experience. I went to a Presbyterian Church growing up and in high school the camp was in a private bay on Catalina Island. It was tough, let me tell you. I also attended the Presbyterian Youth Triennium which was like summer camp on steroids.

My high school for grades 10-12 was a different story. It was associated with a baptist church that then later swung so far to the right that they split from the Baptists. That's the school that is associated with the church that Timothy LaHaye (author of the Left Behind books) founded. I did go to a camp through the school one summer. It was crazy evangelical and I had a miserable experience.

My elementary school was associated with a Lutheran Church and for grades 6 to 9 I attended a secular prep school.

That was basically my Jewish camp experience too. Prayers before meals, Friday and Saturday services, and our t-shirts had the group names in Hebrew and English. Oh, and there were always a few Israeli exchange students in each cabin. But the day-to-day activities were your basic camp stuff - arts & crafts, sports, trust exercises, etc. It would have been great, but I didn't get along with anyone in my cabin either year I went. It was just not my crowd.
