The comments I've been saying say there is likely a physical jam, like part of the casing structure was dislodged during the kick and is blocking it from closing. Can't remember how informed that particular speculation is.

bonny, glad you're both all right! And your neighbors, too. I had renter's insurance through Allstate, along with my car and now have my home insurance. I like them. I strongly recommend getting renter's insurance, whoever you pick!

Sure, people were trying things, but in the end, nothing lasted (as in: the system didn't change). Or, as my kick ass Middle Age prof. says: "The only difference between a riot and a revolution is that only the later consider to be successful".

erika, if they are fruit flies, they LOVE apple cider vineger. You can make a simple trap out of one of many household items [link] - I use a small vase with a narrow neck.
