'Unleashed'
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

A good question for employed people is "where does your boss think you are right now?"
I got asked that once, very casually, and I said "He doesn't know, I took the day off" When I talked the the hiring manager later, she told me that the guy asked everyone that and if they said that they had lied at all, they were out of the running.
I was wondering how you go about interviewing for jobs when you're still employed. Very sneakily, it seems. For me, it was very nerve wracking and stressful. I guess it depends if you like your current job or not. If you are looking to escape, I imagine it's a lot easier.

Huh, interesting. I mean, I'd feel really uncomfortable about it, even if it was necessary, you know? And yet it would be more uncomfortable to straight up tell your boss you're looking for another job, right?
In this case, I just go. In former cases, I would take a half day or a long lunch if possible. And sometimes they know that you're interviewing.
Since ours is called "paid time off" so being sick is the same as vacation, I tell my reports that I don't need to know which they're taking. It's their business. I tell R that if he calls in with a migraine and it goes away in the afternoon and he can get a golf game in, then he should!
I wouldn't necessarily refuse to hire someone because they had to tell their current employer a lie to get off of work. Some places are really crap about giving necessary time off - it might be one of the reasons the employee is looking elsewhere!
Where I am if I take the day (or a half day) off is none of my boss' business, it's my time. It's only his business if I am interviewing during a work day on his time.
Interview ~ma, Kristin!
I've never lied about job interviews, and I've had a lot (I'm not very good at them!) - I always crumbled, what with the guilt, and ended up telling my boss. But then, I've worked in some oddly open departments (including a few where the concept of 'hours' meant nothing at all to anyone, as evidenced by people who worked 11 till 3 on a regular basis).

Yes. If I took the time off, I don't owe my boss an explanation of what I'm doing with that time.
My tax refund has been deposited. Phew.
