Warning: rant ahead
ya know what's really pissing me off today? anti police rioters in our fine city. 2 days in a row. they have legitimate base concerns (info about an officer involved shooting yesterday not being released to the media in a timely manner) but their means of protesting? pushing private trash cans and dumpsters into traffic, vandalizing citizen vehicles, blocking traffic, assaulting officers, and basically forcing the majority of the city police force to come deal with their obnoxiousness. No signs, no statements, just anarchistic riots that server no purpose but to delay response on all other police issues.
All the people whose cars were stolen or vandalized today or yesterday? had to wait way longer than usual for an officer to respond. The parents who found out their children had been abused days earlier? Waiting for hours. For hours every person who called for police assistance and whose life wasn't in immediate jeapordy had to wait because a huge group of people decided that anarchy was a good plan for making their lives safer. Hey guess what? WRONG!
I'm all for freedom of speech and assmemblage and protesting, but criminy they tried to mob a defunct police station that was closed during the last budget cut. Guess what? NO COPS THERE. And they did the exact same thing yesterday. Vandalized a building that used to be a police station but is no longer. Clearly no one figured that out after day 1 of stupidity and damage to other citizen's property.
Better courses of action? Protesting in front of the police chief's office, or city hall. Writing letters of protest to local newspapers, or even *gasp* trying to boost funding for officer training and recruitment. But i guess that wouldn't be quite as "fun" as being a bunch of jerks.
Sorry, can't rant anywhere under my own name for employment reasons. *sigh* Why are anarchists such fucktards?
That sounds really frustrating, erin, and not like a good way to gain support for ones concerns.
Why are anarchists such fucktards?
Well, not all of them. It's not like they can enforce a group code of action. Philosophically speaking. But yeah, there sure are some thoughtless, fucktards among them. I hope no one waiting on police action was hurt by the delay.
Aw, Tep, I was all excited to get e-mail from you, and then it was spam.

Hee! Maybe they were going for the historical twist, like the storming of the Bastille.

Even though I'd
just read this
I had the exact same reaction when I popped over to gmail.
Of course the first hint that it was spam was the scary grammar. And yes, I was all excited to get Teppy mail too.

sadly, no. i saw the online posting saying they were going to the "SE Precinct." Guess they never got the memo that it was shut down last year. There are still city staffers in the building, but no longer law enforcement. They get rather tired of all the people walking in expecting it to be a police precinct.
Daniel, may the next 60 days pass smoothly and without incident.
I got the not!Tep spam as well.
D is now being passive aggressively snarky via email, which at least removes any doubt I had. When asked if he wanted back the lovely hand-painted Russian box he'd given me, he said "Keep the box, it's yours. But can I have back all my time and effort? ;)" @@
Argh, just had a meeting reminder pop up and I have to go do something for it. Laters!
Daniel, I hope that everything goes well over the next couple of months.
And now I'm going to make a plug for Edward Jones Investments. Not because I use them now or plan to use them in the future. But because I had an account with them for about 10 minutes after my dad died, and then transferred to another firm. But when I found out last night that I needed some tax info from them, and called them at 8 am today to see about getting it, the owner of the local branch called me back 15 minutes later to say the documents were printed out and should he mail them or would I like to pick them up? And then he wished me well with my crazy-assed mini-investments in wind energy. I feel like a boyfriend I dumped for not being exciting enough just stopped to help me change a flat tire on the freeway. Nice people at Edward Jones (at least the Carrboro branch)!
I need some advice because I've never had this happen: very soon (like, next month) my van will be paid off (YAY!!). It's only valued at about $1500 for replacement if it got totaled and if I got lucky. It will cost me $1200 a year to keep the full coverage on it.
Do I keep the full coverage or drop it down to the state required PLPD?
