I thought of you the other day when I was gathering movies for our European Road Trip project. I couldn't find any movies set in Moldova. Armenia, Georgia, Estonia, no problem, but no Moldova.
In my two years there, I heard of one tourist. Not met, heard of. And he was a genealogy tourist, so... doesn't really count.
Here is a music video by my favorite Moldovan band, Zdob si
Zdub, that shows Moldova now and then (1960s during Communism). Buna Dimineata means "good morning," and the song is basically a recitation of all things Moldovan. [link]
Glenn Beck ain't right. (and not in that "I Totally Disagree with You So I Fart In Your general Direction" way. I mean, like, really-really. Like one day he will come to the studio without pants on.
Hence, the suggestion, in that "birds of a feather" sort of way.
If you like the sort of neo-60's sound mixed with a bit of Strokesish/Arctic Monkeyish stuff, do yourself a favor and listen to every Codeine Velvet Club song you can find on YouTube.
Then by me the album when it comes out next month.

Thank you, I really enjoyed that. I will likely ask you to remind me of them again sometime. (and of course now I'll have-Oppa diddy die! Oppa diddy die! stuck in my head all day. Not that that's really what they said...)
That's a great top 10, DJ. I love the fact that Edward didn't even rate.
Poor Rob Pattinson. I swear he seemed kinda cute way back when I thought of him as the guy who played Cedric. But now I've transfered all my Edward-is-creepy feelings onto him.
Not strident at all, Andi. You're perfectly right and I was oversimplifying. I apologize. That's a rough test for cats about whom little is known, and certainly only a very rough diagnostic.
I'm so glad I didn't sound snotty. I didn't mean to make you think you needed to apologize, either. Mentioning what IS known about feline dehydration is a good touchstone for the discussion, since a lot of what I was saying is stuff I don't have any concrete evidence for. I could definitely be full of hooey. Pretty much the only thing I know for sure about the relationship between feline nutrition and disease, is that Hill's, which dominates veterinary nutrition education, is far more full of hooey than I could ever dream of being.
I saw a LOLceleb of Pattinson where the caption said something about his sideburns look like his ear sneezed.
My boss refuses to even accept that Edward is a vampire, so he was never even a possibility for the list.
Also, the blogposts are linked on FB, and this is one of the only ones with sane/on topic comments. Which says...something.
No, that's pretty much what they said. It's like "la la la."
Here's my all-time favorite song of theirs - Videli Noci. It's about drinking all night with your friends. At least that's what I'm told, this song is in Russian so I only understand random words here and there. [link] At the slow part everyone would inevitably throw their arms around each other and lean back and forth in a big circle. Good times.
And then there's "The Gypsy and the UFO" [link] "Grandma Beats the Drum" (Eurovision submission) [link] and "Moldovan Hardcore" [link] That last one, every single line ends in "...and we drank wine*." Like "we lay down next to tractors..." "we stole tomatoes...." "we went to the forest with girls..." and so on.
Srsly, I love this band. I accidently left my cd behind, and should really replace it - I've seen them for sale on ebay.
* but instead of proper Romanian "vin," Moldovans say "gin," which confused the crap out of me at first but eventually I realized is a phonetic shift consistent in the Moldovan dialect. piciorul -> kiciorul, etc.
