Gavin, ask yourself this question. What are you more afraid of, a giant murderous demon or me?

“Not dead yet!”

You can also do a find and replace, which is how I just fixed the current MS. Let's see if it sticks.

Because books.

I hate, hate, hate the new feature in the newest version of Word that puts an extra space between paragraphs. You can turn it off but you have to do it in every document, and it's so, so wrong.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Kevin, really... you cannot leave us with no more of the story than that!

Oooh, I hate that too, but I set a custom template for my Word docs, so I rarely have to deal with it.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Is that why new manuscript I get has 10pt added after?

Also, when did they decide that margins should be 1.25 inches? 1 inch was already plenty.

I basically have a checklist of formatting things I now have to do to all new manuscript. Annoying.

Equals now trying to "find and erase" the prime minister. I can think of a few politicians I'd like to try that on ...

I have to stop myself from reformatting other people's comments in code to remove the extra spaces. It's just not done, but if I were in charge it would be.

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

I was trained in two spaces in grad school and have stood firmly by the habit, but lately, I've been hearing mutterings of it being as outdated as organdy aprons.

Only lately?

Oh my good god, NO. This is a leftover from typewriters, babe. NO need for it now. I take out all those extra spaces, every manuscript I edit, and grumble about it the whole time.

This. Two spaces after a period is of the devil, and although we have a macro to take care of it, we still mutter imprecations.

Really, only lately. At least, none of my editors ever seemed to care one way or the other. Where I've begun hearing the grumblings are for editors for e-publishers.
