I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Tonight a friend of mine made a ginger gimlet. It's a vodka gimlet with ginger beer and some other gingery liquor added. It's very yummy, and the ginger takes a drink that always feels very summery to me and warms it up a bit for fall.

Of course, the fact that he served it to me in a 16 oz water glass (there was ice, but still) meant that my half hour stick-my-head-in stop at his party lasted 4.5 hours. But he's a nice guy and the other people were lovely. (Especially halfway into the glass o' booze.)

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

That he will someday attend college is my hope that springs eternal.

Call him Schmacky until he does so. Easy peasy.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Oooh, that does sound good. I want to know what that gingery liquor was, I didn't know there was one.

Our wings are not tired.

The combination of too few hours in the day and this shiny new thread has caused me to be about 1000 posts behind in my other threads. Well, limited time is the big factor.

I am enjoying this thread ever so much. Hello lurkers! Wonderful to meet you. And I am still finding out new things about my old friends. This thread - made of win.

“Not dead yet!”

Oh, this thread is definitely made of win.

Hiya lurkers! So fun to see you.

And I, sadly, have yet to have a F2F with entirely too many people and am dying of jealousy but consoling myself with the fact that I'm soon to be in one of the best cities for Buffista F2F-age.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

I love Fernet even though I hate the taste. It's a thing. I will note that mixing it with other alcohol voids the no-hangover warranty.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I did not like Fernet.

This is fortunate as it, I later discovered, contains myrrh. I am (oddly, I know) allergic to myrrh. And while chuch incense has only ever made me itchy and breathy and pukey I do not relish the thought of what myrrh could do to me ingested in any quantity.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I am (oddly, I know) allergic to myrrh.

Myrrh allergies make the baby Jesus cry.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

"I'm not asking the Wisemans to the party--they always bring crappy gifts. Myrrh--who does that?"

And aha. I've always thought Fernet tastes like incense.

Also? The true single malt is Glenmorangie. Well, *I* like it, anyway.
