Our wings are not tired.

Oooh, Brenda, which part of China? I really loved some of China (mostly around Kunming). Go!

Shanghai, I think? My brother is going as part of his MBA program and asked my dad to go along and now it looks like he might not be able to get time off (and frankly I have no idea how he can afford it anyway) so I was talking to my bro and came around to "you know, I have PTO to burn and it turns out I'm getting a 1400 dollar refund from the county for overpaying my property taxes and it is my birthday that week so...). I'll wait and see what the sitch is with my dad but if he really can't go...

Oooooh, that would be neat. It's a huge, huge city (think bigger than NY) with lovely skylines and lots of chaos.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Anybody have any good methods for staving off a cold? Other than sleep, I mean? I knew I was going to make myself sick sewing all night and working all day for two weeks, but I cannot get sick and I have this tickle in my throat. Last night I thought I somehow cut my throat on a potato chip, but I am starting to feel a little sick, too.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I attack it with hot ginger tea and emergen-c. Little whiskey or bourbon in the tea right before bedtime.

I love big chaotic cities! I grew up in NY and consider Moscow the best place I've ever travelled. Also adored Naples this year, which is like the most chaotic of cities even by Italian standards.

Man.This will have to be managed. I don't want to muscle in on my dad but I really want to go.

What Vortex said. I had a roommate who used to swear by garlic tea too - basically a ton of garlic in hot water. Not the nicest tasting, but always effective.

Garlic, ginger and lemons are your friends, though possibly not together.

Because books.

And echinacea, Sophia.

That would be an awesome trip, brenda. Do it!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Lots of vitamin C -- whether in Emergen-C form, like Vortex said, or generic pill form -- can help. Like, 2,000-3,000 mg, spread out over the day.

I still swear by zinc lozenges, though their efficacy seems to have been disproven, so it might just be a placebo effect.

Chicken soup with garlic. Or pho. Or hot and sour soup.

Happy birthday, Lori!!

Holding-off-a-cold vibes for Sophia. And travel-to-China vibes for brenda--very cool possible opportunity for you!

IcompletelyON, a very neat story about how the Brits used Monopoly games to send escape kits to WWII POW camps.
