I just had 2 weird "reprimands" lately. last week, my boss was convinced I was somehow working against her and trying to hide things from her and would rather work in finance upstairs when in reality I was trying to help her not have to do things since she is actually only supposed to devote 30% of her time to the our department and the rest to teaching. That came out of the blue and I was shocked.
She seems to have gotten over it, but now we both have an issue where the people on our floor are complaining about us talking too loud and too much. But the real problem is that they have placed a continuing ed registration office, which has constant phone calls and students coming by on the wing of the hallway that is all people trying to do research and write papers. We should probably be near the admissions or Registrar's Office

So my friends who were expecting had a baby boy on Tuesday. I just found out the husband's mother passed away later on the same day. So heartbreaking. They thought she was holding on until the grandchild arrived, and it really seems like it was true. I feel so badly for A, such an emotional rollercoaster. I'm assuming too that my friend is still not ready to travel and won't make the funeral.
Men can be REALLY ANGRY about weight. Like, they're offended I exist. I have no idea how to respond. I think to myself, "I've written two books. One is published. I've had characters named after me on television shows. I've had lunch with a physics Nobel, and hang out with some of the finest scientists in the US. I've raised over 100K for various charities in the last ten years....and really, you wish I didn't exist because I wear size 14 jeans. What the fuck have YOU done with your life?"
In my experience, the men who are douchebags about women's weight tend to not be paragons of male pulchritude themselves.
Alyson, my personal opinion is that the anger that men feel toward fat or otherwise unattractive-to-them women is a general misogyny thing, not just an anti-fat thing.
Some men feel that we, as women, *owe* it to them to look (and act, to some extent) like someone they want to fuck. If we dare to be unfuckable (to them) and seem OK WITH IT, then that ignites the rage. How dare we? How dare we live our lives not according to WHAT THEY WANT and what they desire?
The misogyny, it burns.
