Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

What a sad loss. He will be remembered, respected, and missed. NYT obituary. Patti Smith, another personal idol of mine, says of Carroll, "I met him in 1970, and already he was pretty much universally recognized as the best poet of his generation. The work was sophisticated and elegant. He had beauty."

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

now I can't hear what they're saying about the noise.

Get yer butt out there and eavesdrop!

Wozniacki kinda fell apart there at the end of the last set. I give the match to Clijsters. I really wish they'd stop mentioning Henin. Surely there's something else to talk about. Uh, that isn't Serena.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Good luck to you and yours, Nora!

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

From a blog discussion about bad pop music: Silvia Night. [link] I'm just staring at this video in horror. It's terrible even by Eurovision standards.

It's Europe's revenge for us afflicting them with Jingle Cats, right?

Because books.

Hey, Serena just announced Pink at the VMAs. That was unexpected, since I've been watching you all talk about what happened today.

Great, Angry guy is arguing with the cop.

I'm liking angry guy less and less.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

And now Angry Guy slammed his door. While cop is talking to Peter.

Angry guy is angry - he thinks cop took Peter's side. Cop did suggest Angry guy move out if he didn't like the noise.

This just gets weirder and weirder.

And Mary Carillo is pissed at her for being there, although I'm not sure what she should be doing instead...given that she assed herself out of playing the finals. Well, and played herself out too--no way she was getting back in the game.

Carillo thinks that she should be suspended and not play in the doubles final tomorrow. I'm out of touch of other sports--do they suspend players for verbal abuse? And if you don't suspend Serena tomorrow, you have to wait until January, because it's not like they seriously play anything other than the Majors or Fed Cup anyway.

I guess I'd be more unequivocal if it weren't doubles. That's a different track to me, and unfair to a third party (no matter what Venus's opinion of the whole deal was, she didn't do anything and shouldn't be penalised). If she had singles play left to go, and suspending is in line with verbal abuse, then sure.
