Oh, God yes. That other person I was before parenthood is still here, but the life she lived? Transformed, or utterly gone. Maybe recoverable, eventually, when Matilda is older and more self-sufficient, but even so it will be radically different.
(I remember, so vividly, going to dinner at Helmand right before my water broke with Hec and a bunch of localistas and Aims, in town for a brief visit, and being acutely aware that this would likely be our very last grown-up outing together as a couple for a long, long time. And I'm still so tickled that that last outing was with Buffistas.)
