So it's not enough my street is a mess I can't park on due to water main replacement, now it's got a gas leak (no doubt caused by the water main work) and so I anticipate more holes tonight. The BGE guy is sitting out in his van, waiting for the crew. Exciting!

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

That cat & zombie cake is...um, well...it's something.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Lovely pictures, aurelia. They've made me homesick. I'm glad you tried the fudge. When I was a kid we used to stop for some every time we crossed the bridge to visit family.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Jenkins went on to tell Smith that "people should be given the opportunity to take care of themselves with a refund, or an advanceable [sic] tax credit, to go be a grown-up and go buy the insurance."

I would love to go buy insurance. Under the current system, though, I'm pretty sure no one would sell it to me. And all the proposed rules about insurance companies having to take everybody, or about them having to cover preexisting conditions, keep getting shot down by Republicans because they're limits on freedom.

Corporate freedom, Hil!

I love that within a few hours of a neighbor posting plant giveaways, they're all gone, but others are chiming in in response to requests for stuff that they have to share. I love this hood.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Thanks, -t and Calli. I've been working summers in MI for years so I've had the fudge in TC, but since this was my first trip to the island I figured fudge was required.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Oh god. NBC is remaking Prime Suspect. Leave it alone, people. Helen Mirren already won Emmys for that, didn't she?

re: insurance

The universe looks after me and Hubby in odd ways. This news story is about my insurance/hospital/doctor system, Intermountain Healthcare.

President Barack Obama has repeatedly singled out Intermountain, along with the Mayo and Geisinger clinics and other so-called "organized practices," for delivering high-quality care at below-average costs. They are "islands of excellence in the sea of high cost mediocrity" as one Dartmouth report puts it; standouts in a country where cost and quality can vary wildly by geographic region.

One of the big reasons I haven't seriously thought of moving out of Utah is because these folks have kept Hubby alive for over a decade, and I don't want to take him away from them.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

How many times has Hollywood not ruined British TV? There's The Office...
