Also also, I would totally wear a veil if I were a chief mourner at a funeral that's on TV. We don't really need to be looking right into these people's faces!
Was the "veil not required" a part of Vatican II or is it more of a "modern" thing?

I thought so, but wasn't sure as at RFK's funeral, there will still veils aplenty, but I assume that's a personal choice?
Pre-Vatican II, every woman had to wear a veil in church, right?
I think it was just that they had to cover their head.
