Melissa Rice: Cancer Fraud Woman Found Dead

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — A 24-year-old woman who allegedly ran a cancer donation scam that netted her thousands of dollars and gifts from celebrities has been found dead of an apparent suicide.

Officials say Melissa Ann Rice, of Ammon, Idaho, apparently committed suicide days after a charge of grand theft by fraud was filed against her. Her body was found Wednesday in her car.

Bonneville County Sgt. Doug Metcalf says Rice fooled national cancer foundations into donating thousands of dollars and gifts to her by pretending to be a 15-year-old boy with brain cancer named Jonathan Jay White.

Deputies continue to investigate the case to return donations that included a skateboard autographed by Tony Hawk and a guitar autographed by Kenny Chesney.

Zip car is great, but it would be better if you could pick up and drop off the car in different places

For airport runs alone, this would be awesome!

Is this the one with the disconnected number?

I think the society he was trying to contact was for New Jersey/Pennsylvania (local to here). ETA: I'll let him know about that group in case something more local doesn't work out.

SIL can't suck it up for a while until he finds a place? DO IT FOR YOUR CRYING KID, SIL.

He's been putting off making this decision for the year since he moved out, and now that the divorce is final (as of yesterday), she made it a point in the final paperwork that he has only two weeks from yesterday to get rid of the dogs. He can't afford to get his own place so he'll be living here for a few years at least, so he'll have to find them new homes either way. I think he's hoping to find a farmer in the area that would have the room for the dogs to run around and stay together (they're from the same litter).

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Yeah, well I still think it's mean. Poor kid. HE didn't get divorced.

I'm going to the Free State Brewery for lunch today. That name will, of course, be meaningless for everybody here.

Poor kid. HE didn't get divorced.

God, I know. My parents were separated/divorced when I was as old as Dylan is, and I so feel for him and what he's going through. (His siblings, too, of course, but I relate with him due to the age.)

The good thing is that I think that Dylan won't suffer from my biggest loss in my parents' divorce, which was my close relationship with my father. I might have lost that as I entered adolescence, anyway, but the timing of him moving out of the house guaranteed that we grew apart. Dylan is always coming over here and hanging with my brother (last night, they went to the Phillies game and he slept here afterwards)--he loves coming here and seeing both his dad and grandma.
