Natter 64: Yes, we still need you
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
It's not quite a fail in customer service, if only because it's so damned amusing and the intent was good and well, the word was spelled correctly, even if it gives an altogether different tone to the message.
Barbara,
We are sorry to inform that we are currently out of stock of the 12 oz. Mango Lime. We can either hold your order pending production and ship your order complete, Approx. August 31st, or you can choose to substitute another product and your order will ship out today, August 24th. Please let us know as soon as possible which you prefer. Sorry for the incontinence and thank you for your order.
Elisa
Poor Elisa needs to invest in a thesaurus.
So is that what you need the Mango Lime for, Barb? Heh.
For some reason, "something is a privilege" and "only the privileged get something" didn't seem equivalent to me.
I don't see how else to read that. For a low bar to obtain a privilege, I can see how it wouldn't seem that way. The financial bar for health care is pretty high.
Of course, we kinda sorta treat it as a right already. An ER can't turn you away in a real emergency, but it is neither an efficient nor effective means of getting health care. (Well, it can be very effective in some cases, but not overall)
Dear Jackhole, agenda items were due last week. Do not email me today to get something on the agenda. Further, "new business" does not mean "shit I forgot to add to the agenda", it means items that have been selected for the agenda that had not been previously discussed.
No love,
me
I'm normally pretty sternly anti-violence, but in this case I'll join the kickline.
And from upthread, Typo, I don't mean "low rent Camille Paglia" in any way that's complimentary to Paglia. ITA with your assessment of her; I just think Wilson's writing for at least the past half-decade has been an even shabbier and more grating version of her, with almost the same level of pompous classical literature namedropping and an extra overlay of I'm-an-edgy-hipster.
She's almost not even the same person as the twentysomething Hunter S Thompson-worshiping weirdly compassionate girly punk playwright living in a North Beach loft and driving back to San Rafael on weekends to say hi to her folks that I remember from eons ago. They look similar, but that's about it.
Sorry for the incontinence and thank you for your order
Oh dear.
Occidental College Offers Course In Stupidity
180. STUPIDITY. Stupidity is neither ignorance nor organicity, but rather, a corollary of knowing and an element of normalcy, the double of intelligence rather than its opposite. It is an artifact of our nature as finite beings and one of the most powerful determinants of human destiny. Stupidity is always the name of the Other, and it is the sign of the feminine. This course in Critical Psychology follows the work of Friedrich Nietzsche, Gilles Deleuze, and most recently, Avital Ronell, in a philosophical examination of those operations and technologies that we conduct in order to render ourselves uncomprehending. Stupidity, which has been evicted from the philosophical premises and dumbed down by psychometric psychology, has returned in the postmodern discourse against Nation, Self, and Truth and makes itself felt in political life ranging from the presidency to Beevis and Butthead. This course examines stupidity.
The British National Party is being sued for racial discrimination.
The party's constitution limits members to people who are "'indigenous Caucasian' and defined 'ethnic groups' emanating from that race".
The commission first wrote to the BNP in June stating that it believed the party is in breach of the Race Relations Act. The far right organisation responded by saying it intended to clarify the word "white" on its website.
However, the commission said today that it believes the BNP is still discriminating against "potential or actual members on racial grounds".
It's entirely possibly that I have a shaky grasp on non-US politics, but isn't racial discrimination kind of the BNP's raison d'être?
Stupidity is always the name of the Other, and it is the sign of the feminine.
what exactly does this mean, the "sign of the feminine"
