We had the first soccer games of the fall season this weekend. A tale of two games.
Emaryn's team got hammered. They played an experienced team and her team has several first season players, so it was a tough time. She also started off in goalie which is an interesting paradox. She loves to play goalie, but she's kinda terrible at it since she just wants to stand in front of the net and kick at the ball. Once she was on the field, she played much better and the team did better too, relatively speaking.
Leif's team hammered their opponent. They have a number of players who are pretty young for the division, but it doesn't seem to matter. The coach tries to never have all his best players in at once, but they have so many good players on the team, it's kinda hard to put in a lineup that isn't tough on the other team.
In general, how do kids handle it if their team gets beaten badly? Do you tell them it "builds character"?
Emaryn doesn't seem to mind losing, or even having lots of balls go by her when playing goalie. She's not really into the score, she just enjoys playing.
Leif has never been on the losing side of a soccer game. This hasn't helped his massive ego.

Sounds like she should be the sweeper?

That would be better for her. She's at her best at forward. It's a rec league so all the players switch off between positions. But she has fun at goalie somehow, so I suppose it's all good. It's just sort of painful to watch her play the position.
Definitely Cute!
Last night as I was attempting to get to sleep I thought favorably of how nice the pillows were at the Springhill Suites that I recently visited, and it occurred to me that I could probably stand to upgrade my pillows which are sadly flat, and maybe a couple pillow cases while I'm at it.
It's not like I haven't spent a bunch of money recently, but this sounds like it would actually be a wise investment if I sleep better.
That baby is adorable!
Our kids don't go back until the 9th. It feels like forever away still.
