Mothera (a play on the name of Godzilla's nemesis, Mothra) perfectly captures this tension: a caricature of the archetypal housewife, rendered as a screeching demon slug. Her many tails connect her to her brood of gleeful tots; tentacles sprout brooms, TVs, vacuum cleaners, and other domestic paraphernalia; hair curlers double as missile launchers.

There was ice in Western Fairfax this morning. More slushy on the streets, but it took me several minutes to get the ice off the windshield.
