Yeah, it definitely is a hard thing. We are getting to the age where we're really dealing with our parents aging, and it's tough.
We're back from Christmas Eve services, which were very nice. They were a combined service, three different churches, which I really enjoyed. We did have the correct advent reading; they did the whole thing. They were written to be done over some weeks, so I skipped the redundant bits, but other people didn't. I think it was better my way. Hee.
The SO got verklempt reading the bit about Mary's decision. I love that he's got such a soft heart.
Now we're home and we deep cleaned the kitchen together. I weighed the goose (six and a half pounds) and marinated the veggies. The Canada goose preparation is so much different from a tame goose. It turns out I won't be getting crazy amounts of goose grease, as this particular goose was wild and spent all its time flying around looking for food, and therefore is not fat.
Still think there's a large rate of failure potential, but it should be fun. All else is in readiness.

Awww, that's really sweet!

Merry Christmas!
This is what happens when I go to bed at 9:30. I've been awake for half an hour.
Oh goodness Epic, best to your mom and family.
I'm the first one up here. I should take a shower now while I have the chance I guess.
In my parents' town, on Christmas Eve, they decorate the fire truck (we've got just one fire truck) with Christmas lights and one of the firemen dresses up and Santa and they drive slowly around town with the siren going with Santa waving to everybody in their front windows.
Happy Christmas morning (well, it is hereabouts)! I woke up at gawd awful am and, as I'm sharing my niece's bedroom, crept downstairs to sneeze and snort without waking her. Besides, her room, while a fine example of a teenager's bedroom (and shared with no complaints, at least in my hearing), is sadly lacking in coffee. It's now about 7:30 here, still full dark outside, and the only light is the Christmas tree. Very atmospheric.
Merry Christmas!
I'm about to dress and head out to my sister's. Was supposed to go last night but too sleepy. Also, I thought it was a two hour trip, but it's more like three.
Everyone enjoy the day!

Separately, all good thoughts your mom's way (and your family and you, too), Epic.
Epic, I hope there was no major damage from your mom's heart attack.
Oh, Epic, I hope things turn around quickly.
Insomnia again. At least this time I can take more sleep meds in the middle of the night. And now I'm poking at very slugging Intarwebs. Yuletide fic, maybe.
