We can come by between classes. Usually I use that time to copy over my class notes with a system of different colored pens. But it's been pointed out to me that that's, you know...insane.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I dunno, it's okay for me to be reticent about the decade, but isn't Rich going to be very lonely when he does his best of next year?

Didn't he say he probably won't bother next year, either?

Better night last night, I am just residually mad at life. Mac did not get himself to sleep and came to my room at 10pm and ended up sleeping with me. He has refused to let me lay down with him or to come lay down with me for at least 3 weeks now, it is one of the fastest ways for him to re-connect and feel safe, so I am glad he did it last night. 8 hours of sleep would normally do me good, but with him and the two cats I was awake over and over again. He probably only got 6-7 hours of sleep on Sunday, so the 8 solid hours will be good for him, but he should really be getting 9+. Still, an improvement.

Another half empty department at work. The goal is two piles of paper today, getting to the PO and getting a $10 gift for mac's afterschool stupid required secret santa thing.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

I didn't see the advantage.

Good to know. Thanks!

Coding and Sleeping

My wife is distressed, we spotted the Sarah Palin book next to a Newsmax magazine, not far from the Glen Beck book. Her parents used to be center-right, but during the 2008 election have shifted right in a big way. Apparently they've decided now that CNN is too liberal and only trust Fox.

Of course, they are probably distressed that my wife is well over on the liberal side and, as my posts have revealed clearly, I'm a far left guy. I've warned my liberal family that politics may not be a good topic of discussion. My in-laws won't argue stuff, but they would probably get uncomfortable and that's not a good holiday feeling.

Yeah, that sounds like a good call...

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yay Shane!

ION, this looks like a fun book: How to Teach Physics to Your Dog: explaining quantum physics through discussions with a German shepherd

Chad Orzel's How to Teach Physics to Your Dog is an absolutely delightful book on many axes: first, its subject matter, quantum physics, is arguably the most mind-bending scientific subject we have; second, the device of the book -- a quantum physicist, Orzel, explains quantum physics to Emmy, his cheeky German shepherd -- is a hoot, and has the singular advantage of making the mind-bending a little less traumatic when the going gets tough (quantum physics has a certain irreducible complexity that precludes an easy understanding of its implications); finally, third, it is extremely well-written, combining a scientist's rigor and accuracy with a natural raconteur's storytelling skill.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Has anyone gotten their eyebrows threaded, instead of waxed? How do the two compare?

I've done other parts of my face. I find that threading takes a little longer but irritates my skin much less.
