Spike: We got a history, him and me. Fred: What? Spike: It was a long time ago. He was a young Watcher, fresh out of the academy when we crossed paths. It was a, what-you-call battle of wills and blood was spilled. Vendettas were sworn. It was a whole-- Fred: My God you're so full of crap. Spike: Yeah. Okay.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I meant to send some treats to coworkers, but meh.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

But, erika, the self-defense argument would apply to "life/health of the mother". If people will excuse my indelicacy, the rape/incest clause is something more along the lines of "he had it coming."

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

My boss gave me a nice wooden box. I gave her a box of fancy truffles (really - you can't go wrong with chocolate). In even better news, we got bonuses this year!

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Everyone here who has an admin assistant gets a present for that assistant, and sometimes the division chiefs give presents to all the admins in their divisions. This year one of my bosses gave me a $50 Safeway card, one gave me a $50 crystal serving platter (pretty, but it's going straight back to Macy's whence it came), and the third gave me a very pretty soap set last year but hasn't given anything this year.

The crystal serving platter boss has told me very sternly that he'll be extremely angry if any of the admins buy him any gifts, bless him.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

I used to get gifts from my former boss at the mall. I got her a gift one year and she yelled at me. She said, "Gifting does down, not up." which I then replied with a very pervy comment.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Last year, I gave my minion (who was in her first real job) a stern talking-to ahead of time about never feeling obligated to give a boss a present.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I kinda refuse on principal on gifting up the work chain, unless I am just friends with my boss.

So much this.

Ditto. Although I have received gifts from reports (who I also gave gifts to). I forgot about this year, so, sorry team!

One of my DRs just won't stop doing this and it makes me supremely uncomfortable. But it's not like I can say anything.

We ususally get something smallish from our boss - she moved to San Fran this year so we got a big box of sourdough bread with cheese and tapenade and stuff the other day. I trust in lieu of anything individual.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

My idea of gifting up to the boss is using my discount at the bookstore to save her a few dollars on her calendar.

ION, Two Lumps is pretty funny today.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

After saying I've never gotten anything from a boss I come in to what looks like a jar of something and a family card from the new boss. Goes to show.

In order to get the week's hours down to 40 I slept in this morning, almost an extra hour. Felt indolent. Came in an hour and a half late. And I'd still have to take an hour's lunch break and leave by two. Which I can't do. So I'm going to have to underbill this week.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

ION, Two Lumps is pretty funny today.

Ha ha ha. I can't believe it took me to the end to pick up on it.

ION, one of my co-workers got all gift-y today! She got me Grandma's Dead: Breaking Bad News with Baby Animals and the Jane Austen action figure!! Both of which are great gifts for me! I gave her a hug. Yes, a hug. At work! Scandalous.
