I am going to stand by my, I HATE PEOPLE statement.
Stupidheads against gov't involvement in healthcare - THEN YOU GET NO SAY ABOUT ABORTIONS!!!! Same stupidheads that argue against big gov't getting all up in their grill wrt guns/safety issues/education - THEN YOU GET NO SAY ABOUT MARRIAGE!
YOU JACKHOLES!
Ooh, I just realized the Famous Footwear store is in the same complex as what I guess is my closest Target. I am now excited for the trip! Too bad my friend who lives nearby there will be out of town for two weeks....
Not offended at all, Aims.
And yup to Teppy; she said yes, and I've read (mostly feminist, but even some non-) theologians frame it not just as submission, but as active assent, a perfect reverse of whatever choice was involved in original sin: faced with a mysterious request, apparently either absurd or physically impossible, instead of saying, Nah, fuck it, she went all Jasmine-taking-Aladdin's-hand-and-stepping-off-the-balcony and said, "I trust you. Makes no sense, but I'm sure down to my bones that I trust you. So, YES."
And my completely unsubstantiated Biblical fanfic fanwank is that she wasn't the first possible Mother of God who was asked, that there were others to whom the offer was made, but they couldn't quite nerve themselves up to make that jump. They couldn't quite trust their own sanity or their families' willingness to support them and not flip out like mammals, or they were just too young and scared. And they walked away without harm and went on to lead perfectly decent, somewhat more ordinary lives.
I really kinda want to write a fic about one of the others, a few years older than Mary, having a caravan of peddlers come through her town with gossip from Jerusalem about that thug who just got himself executed, and his crazy friends and extremely crazy mother and damn, the big cities are full of loons and it's good to be back on the small town circuit, and what she thinks (privately, never saying a word to anyone else) about it all.
Shit, Anne Rice is writing Bible fanfic and I
know
mine couldn't possibly be worse than hers.
Stupidheads against gov't involvement in healthcare
My opinion is that if you can't say you think a sick or injured kid should die if her parents can't pony up the bucks, then you want some public involvement in healthcare, it's just a matter of extent.
There was a commercial I saw when I was working from home on Wednesday that was like "Stop Medicare cuts! Contact your representative! Stop the government involvement in healthcare!"
I just...I can't even talk to those people.
Stop government interference in health care that I don't need! 'Cause other people don't deserve it!
And then there goes your re-election.
I think that's probably the case. But it's so transparently trying to have it both ways. It's absolutely morally wrong until there's a tough consequence to standing by your morals.
TEACH BIRTH CONTROL AS WELL AS ABSTINENCE IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS YOU SANCTIMONIOUS TOOL.
Wordy McWord. Also, what msbelle said.
JZ, I would read your Bible fanfic!
Ooh, that sound great, JZ. I was just talking about Mary, and how HOLY SHIT the whole story is, when you really think about it. Possibly I should not say "holy shit" when talking about the BVM, but seriously.
In other news, I am feeling very productive, as I have made a vet appointment for my cat and called the old vet to have records sent over. And I made the appointment for after Christmas, in case anyone heard me talking about wanting a new carrying case.
I just ran my cashflow until next pay day and hate my lack of day to day budgetting. At least my lunch today is paid for.
Do people get gifts from their bosses?
