You're wrong about River. River's not on the ship. They didn't want her here, but she couldn't make herself leave. So she melted... Melted away. They didn't know she could do that, but she did.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I do get annoyed that the vegetarian burrito is the same price as a chicken burrito. Can't I get a price break for not getting the dead bird chunks?

You get the guac included, which the chicken-eaters don't.

Ooh, that's sheisty. (Is that how you spell that?)

I think you made up a word.

Which is a perfectly cromulent thing to do.

I didn't make it up! I've just never seen it in print. [link]

Coding and Sleeping

Ah, I don't get the guac. I see now that I'm just subsidizing the guac. My burrito sounds so healthy; rice, beans, corn, red salsa, lettuce; until you get to the sour cream and cheese part.

Okay, I *am* familiar with sheister (though I think I've only seen it spelled "shyster," which makes no sense now that I think about it), so I guess sheisty is derived from sheister.

I learned a new word!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Huh. Wikipedia says 'Shyster' is the correct spelling: [link]

The word is derived from the German verb scheissen, "to defecate" and the English suffix -ster, "one who does". Shyster is an alteration of the German scheißer, because he knows what to do "incompetent worthless person".[2]

Electromagnetic candy! - Stark

Hm. I'd always assumed shyster came from Shylock, not from "scheissen".

(Amusing side-note: when I was studying German in college, one of the students forgot the pronunciation rules for the IE/EI dipthongs, and instead of "to shoot" - shiessen - said "to shit" - shiessen. Frau Janess was MOST outraged.)

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Does anyone remember- a long, long, long time ago- an article that was posted here about the negative effects that a formal user rating structure could have on an on-line community (The kind of rating system where every user can give a comment a thumbs up or thumbs down). I kind of want to send it to Cute Overload because the rating system on comments makes me want to stop reading the comments, both because the design is really obnoxious and breaks up the flow of comments and because people are arguing about it.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

he did something to his wrist/thumb and was diagnosed with tenosynovitis.

He has my sympathy. I'm pretty sure that's what's wrong with my thumb, but because we have the best medical care in the world, my PCP told me what OTC brace to buy and gave me hydrocone so I could hold out the six weeks before there was an orthopedic appointment. (It's tomorrow. Yay?)

pulling shrink wrap and tape off packages (which, oddly, is what hurts him the most).

I've been doing research, and anything that involves putting your thumb and forefinger together and pulling is on the top of the list for pain. Between those things and anything that involves turning the wrist, I've done a lot of screaming, occasionally in public. One thing my research indicates is that ibuprofen is not particularly effective for tenosynovitis and the usual treatment is a cortisone shot.
