My dad says something similar when I complain about the cold, "You moved up there voluntarily and you can always move back down here." I usually respond by smiling and thinking, "I'd rather put up with the cold than move back down there, thankyouverymuch."
I'm fairly sure that VAT only applies if you're in the EU.

Yeah, you shouldn't have to pay VAT if you're in the US, but the store may not have a mechanism for splitting it out from the total price.
Ate too fast, now have hiccups.
lunch was completely unsatisfactory. am not full and it was not as tasty as I thought it would be. I think I need a diet coke to get rid of the taste and fill up my belly.
We had a new sandwich lady in the cafeteria downstairs today. I want the old sandwich lady back. My turkey and swiss on rye was not toasted and I don't know what replaced the spicy mustard I actually asked for, but it was NAS-TEE!
I'm pretty sure VAT is just UK. Other countries have different rules. VAT applies to services, for instance, so it's not just a sales tax. I couldn't say if the same applies for all of the EU.
I won't mention that I had BK for lunch, so as not to make msbelle jealous.
